Glow Without Grease: Highlighter for Oily Deep Skin

Glowing highlighter on deep skin cheekbones without grease or shine

Highlighter on oily skin isn't the problem. Applying it like you have dry skin is.

On dry or normal deep skin, almost any highlighter formula will sit, blend, and hold. On oily deep skin, the same product mixes with your skin's own shine within a few hours — and what started as a glow turns into the kind of sheen that shows up under every light by 2pm. The fix isn't skipping highlighter. It's choosing the right formula and placing it like someone who actually has oily skin.

Why highlighter looks different on oily skin

Oil and shimmer both reflect light, just differently — oil scatters it in a flat sheen, shimmer reflects it in points of light. Stack them together and you get sheen with no definition, not glow. That's why a highlighter that looks perfectly lit on someone with dry skin can look like it slid an hour ago on oily skin, even freshly applied.

Powder beats cream and liquid here — and here's why

Cream and liquid highlighters are built to melt into the skin for a dewy finish — which is the exact texture oily skin is already producing on its own. Layer a melting formula on top of natural oil and the two blend into one slick sheen instead of a lifted glow. A pressed powder highlighter works differently: it sits on top of the skin's surface instead of melting into it, so it keeps its own shape and placement instead of dissolving into whatever oil shows up underneath it.

The My TFace – Lite As Air Powder Highlighter is built for exactly this. It's a fine, buildable powder — not a chunky glitter — so it reads as light rather than grease, and it layers over oily T-zones without clumping the way a cream formula tends to by midday.

Where to put it (and where to skip it, if you're oily)

Placement matters more on oily skin than the highlighter itself. Our placement guide covers exactly where highlighter catches on deep skin — the top of each cheekbone closer to your temple, the center of your nose bridge, and a small dot at the inner corners of your eyes. Those spots hold up for oily skin too.

What changes for oily skin: if your forehead or chin run oily, skip extra highlighter there entirely — reflecting light off skin that's already shining reads as shine, not glow, no matter how fine the formula is. And go easy on the brow bone. It's the spot most likely to look like a chalky stripe rather than a lift on deep skin, so if you use it at all, blend it out into the temple rather than leaving a hard line.

Lock it down without killing the glow

The trick to making powder highlighter last on oily skin is setting around it, not over it. Mattify your T-zone first with a light dusting of the My TFace – Pro-Filter Loose Setting Powder, then apply highlighter on top, directly onto the now-matte high points. Setting powder underneath gives the highlighter something stable to grip instead of sliding on fresh oil — so the glow stays where you put it instead of migrating down your face by lunch.

If you blot through the day, blot first and reapply highlighter after, not before. A blotted, matte high point holds a fresh touch-up of powder highlighter far better than one that's already shining.
